Weymouth Ironman 70.3
I will be participating in the Weymouth Ironman 70.3 in September 2016 aiming to raise £1500 for the Haemophilia Society.
The Location
As host venue of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic sailing events, the Weymouth area it used to staging sports at the highest level.
The fine Georgian seafront is a popular seaside destination providing an impessive backdrop the Bay's long arc of golden sands. The sandy beaches, rich heritage, and spectacular coastline make it the ideal location for an Ironman.
The "Race"
The Ironman 70.3 is a gruelling triathlon that covers 70.3 miles of the southern coast of Dorest.
The start will be a 1.2 mile lap swim of Weymouth Bay. This will the be directly followed by a 56 mile bike ride through the rolling hills of the Jurassic Coastline before concluding the event with a 13.1 mile run (1/2 marathon)!
My participation
Thorughout the years I have been challenging myself each year to push myself further to raise money for charity and help those less fortunate. Most recently, this has included the UK Three Peaks Challenge, Will of Iron (Ironman distance over 7 days), and the Brighton Marathon.
This is the first challenge where I do not know if I'll manage to finish let alone set a target time. This event will take at least 20 weeks of preparation and training to come close to completing it.
